I had never heard of Jessica Jones before I started seeing ads for the new Netflix show which dropped today and I’m excited to start watching. Because I’m generally an impatient person since there’s source material I was like must read it now!

Overall I enjoyed Volume 1 & 2 which is as far as I’ve gotten. Jessica Jones is introduced as a troubled PI who tends to get herself into a lot of trouble. The story in the first two volumes doesn’t seem to have anything to do with what’s going to be the main story on the show.

But it’s definitely intriguing. The character was very likable despite her problems which mainly include drinking and saying the wrong thing at the wrong time. It was fun to see little cameos by Captain America, Ant-Man and Daredevil.

The explicit material didn’t bother me either but honestly all the stuff I’ve been seeing about the show made it sound like the material was going to be so much worse. Maybe I’m desensitized these days? Probably.

My one problem with the novels themselves were the faces of some of the female characters were so interchangeable I thought some were simply Jessica wearing a wig! Hopefully it’s something that gets adjusted as they go on. The novels were very good and actually made me more excited to get into the show.

Recommend: Yes. The first two volumes are a lot of character set up but unlike some of the recent graphic novels I’ve read I’m intrigued enough to keep reading and still excited to see her story on television.
