I recently went through a spell of trying to finish at least some of the duologies I’ve been reading and managed to get these three done to very different results in all honesty. I try to keep it spoiler free below but beware of allusions to the ending for Our Dark Duet in particular.
This Savage Song
Author: Victoria Schwab
This was the Owlcrate book for July and probably my most anticipated read of the summer and overall I’m kind of torn on it.
Kate Harker and August Flynn live in a world where violence breeds actual monsters. Kate is desperately trying to prove herself to her father, which in her case means being as big of a monster as him. August is technically a monster who doesn’t want to be. When the two are thrown together under heightened circumstances they learn things about themselves and each other and generally begin to realize that the definitions of monster and human may not be a simple as they thought.
Top Ten Tuesday: Most Anticipated Upcoming Releases
Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish & this one is about the books being released in the second half of the year that I am most excited for:
Strange the Dreamer – September 27th
Yeah, the synopsis doesn’t give away much on this one but I like the author and it sounds beautiful.
The Twelve Days of Dash and Lily – October 18th
I really love the first one & the cover looks very wintery which is something I’m strangely longing for at the start of summer!
This Savage Song – July 5th
This ones right around the corner!
Heartless – November 8th
A retelling of the Queen of Hearts story from one of my favorite recent authors. Totally signing up for this one!
Replica – October 4th
This one sounds fascinating. Apparently it’s two POV’s that you can chose how to read depending on how you want to read the book. A little confusing but I heard someone with an ARC say it sounds a little bit like Orphan Black so I’ll hop on this one since the show will be months into hiatus by then!
Furthermore – August 30th
A word which strangely I have a hard time typing! This one is apparently about a colorless child in a world of color who goes looking of her missing parent. I heard it compared to Alice so of course I’m in.
Blood for Blood – November 1
I loved the first book about a shapeshifter who undertakes a mission to kill Hitler in an alternative universe where he won World War II. Like most sequels I’m crossing my fingers to hope this one remains as good. It’s high on the list for me this Fall.
Gemina – October 18th
Okay, I wasn’t as in love with Illuminae as some but strangely I’m really looking forward to another go round. I’m loving books that are more in the found footage documentary kind of vein.
And finally my most anticipated book of the year:
Crooked Kingdom – September 27th
Cannot come soon enough! I absolutely loved the first one. The story. The characters. Not to mention this one is going to have red-lined pages. One of the increasingly rare books where I’m not looking forward to the story ending!
